A Freedom of Information Act request reveals Albemarle County Public Schools’ Director of Equity Education sharing a ‘GenAI Equity Prompt Sheet’ with district equity staff to be used as a ‘tool’ when ‘making decisions about GenAI integration.’ The May 21, 2025, email states that the “draft tool” is “designed to support subcommittees in making equity-centered decisions throughout their work” and is “intended to surface questions around access, bias, stakeholder voice, and policy alignment in a practical, usable format.”

According to the email, the “GenAI Equity Prompt Sheet for ACPS Subcommittees” is intended as a tool to support “school and division leaders, subcommittees, and project teams in navigating critical equity questions when making decisions about GenAI integration.” The “prompts are designed to surface unintended consequences, prevent equity oversights, and center human dignity in the midst of rapid digital transformation.”

“Reflective Prompts” include “Who is most likely to be impacted by this decision?,” “What historical inequities might this unintentionally reinforce?,” and “Are we prioritizing equity or convenience?”

The following documents were linked in the email as “optional readings that informed the development of this prompt sheet.”
