Parents Defending Education submitted a public records request to Newton Public Schools seeking emails from board members and the superintendent as well as district statements regarding the Hamas terrorist attack against Israel. After the school district and principal of Brown Middle School sent messages to families regarding the Hamas terrorist attack, a parent contacted the middle school principal accusing Israel of committing “genocide” in an email dated October 14. This same parent then called images coming out of the war as “propaganda.” The principal contacted the district’s “Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education and Special Programs” about how to respond to the email.
The assistant superintendent appears to say that Israel is committing an “atrocity” and that the teacher should tell the parent that she also disagrees with the perceived “violence” that Israel is committing. The assistant superintendent stated:
Probably best to share that you are indeed outraged at the horrible conditions and violence being experienced by civilians in Gaza as well, and that our primary concern is supporting our students, and asking what additional support his child needs.
