On October 31, 2024, the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) filed an amicus (“friend of the court”) brief urging the U.S. Supreme Court to hear Speech First’s challenge to Indiana University’s (IU) bias incidents policy. FIRE argued that bias response teams are widespread and often unconstitutional at public colleges, and that they chill speech even if students are never formally punished.
