On September 27, 2024, Speech First, a national membership group of students, alumni, and others that defends free speech on campus, announced that it had asked the U.S. Supreme Court to hear its lawsuit against Indiana University (IU) over the university’s Bias Response Team. “Nationwide, Speech First has fought universities over their Bias Response Teams and we have won in multiple circuit courts,” said Cherise Trump, Executive Director of Speech First. “But the circuits are split, so students need the U.S. Supreme Court to step in.”
