On October 26, 2023, Speech First, a national membership group of students, alumni, and others that defends free speech on campus, filed its reply brief urging the U.S. Supreme Court to hear its challenge to Virginia Tech’s bias response team. Speech First argued that the university conceded the question is important, barely disputed the split among appeals courts, and could not avoid review by dropping a policy it had kept for years and still defends.
