On January 10, 2022, Speech First, a national membership group of students, alumni, and others that defends free speech on campus, asked the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit to reverse the district court’s partial denial of a preliminary injunction against Virginia Tech. Speech First argued that it likely has standing to challenge the bias-incidents policy and that the informational-activities policy likely violates the First Amendment.
