On January 18, 2022, the Liberty Justice Center filed an amicus (“friend of the court”) brief in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit supporting Speech First’s appeal in its challenge to Virginia Tech’s speech policies. The Liberty Justice Center argued that when university officials use their authority against speech they disapprove of, that chills disfavored speech even if no one is formally punished.
