On June 13, 2025, Defending Education (DE) and its co-plaintiffs filed an amended complaint in Defending Education et al. v. Sullivan et al. against several Colorado state officials. The plaintiffs are Defending Education, Colorado Parent Advocacy Network, Protect Kids Colorado, Do No Harm, Dr. Travis Morrell, Dr. Valeri Leswing, and Mountain Pediatrics. They sued under 42 U.S.C. § 1983, the federal law that lets people sue state officials for violating their constitutional rights, claiming Colorado’s HB 25-1312 violates the First and Fourteenth Amendments.
