Investigations
On February 14, 2024, Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) sent a letter to Secretary Lloyd Austin regarding concerns over the Chinese-owned company Primavera Capital Group’s ownership of Tutor.com and its contract with the Department of Defense. In the letter, Senator Cotton expressed national security concerns over the site’s collection of personal data of its users.
Across the United States, K-12 institutions have contracts with Tutor.com parent company, The Princeton Review (TPR Education LLC), to provide access to students for online tutoring help. The states of Hawaii, Louisiana, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and West Virginia have contracts with Tutor.com through either their Department of Education or State Library for all K-12 students in the respective state.
