Democratic Socialists of America 2023 Conference features ‘Resolution Amendment’ to ‘Run DSA Candidates for School Boards.’

Investigations

A proposed resolution at the 2023 Democratic Socialists of America National Convention titled “Run DSA Candidates for School Boards (Amendment to CR #6 (NEC))” states that, if passed, the “DSA commits to running candidates in school board races and to fight ring (sic) wing and neoliberal attacks on public schools by bringing together DSA, teachers, support staff and education worker unions, and grassroots parent and student groups behind candidates dedicated to building the working class movement.”

Additionally, the proposed resolution seeks to create a subcommittee specifically for school board races called the “National School Board Working Group.” It also states that this subcommittee would “help chapters in running members for school board” and “encourage chapters to monitor and agitate around the activity of far right (sic) school board groups and pro-charter school groups.”

The document also includes the statement that the “DSA reaffirms its commitment to trans and queer rights, and to defending against the ascendent far right, and DSA condemns to the strongest possible degree the growing and ongoing movement to eliminate trans people from our society.”
