Images captured at Newton North High School in Massachusetts and shared with Parents Defending Education show two different posters about gender pronouns. One of the posters hangs at the entrance to the nurse’s office and indicates that nursing office staff will hide the name and pronouns a students uses at school from their parents if that’s what the student wants:
“This office is a safe space. Please make nurses aware of preferred names/pronouns. Let us know if you would like us to use alternative names/pronouns to your preferred ones when calling home.”
The second poster hangs in the hallway on the way to the school’s pool and states: “Respect Their/Zir/Her/His Identity.” This poster also lists several additional pronouns that are made-up words including “Ze, Hir, Hirs.” The poster has a QR code a the bottom for people to “Practice using the correct pronouns!”
