Incidents

On September 8, 2023, Houman David Hemmati posted on X (formerly Twitter) that a teacher at the Los Angeles Unified School District shared information with him about an LGBTQ club for elementary students as young as four years old. He explained: “I was provided this by a teacher at Los Angeles Unified School district who wishes to remain anonymous. Note: TK = Transitional Kindergarten (around age 4).”

He shared an image promoting a “Rainbow Club” that describes the club as “a 10-week, district-wide, virtual club for LGBTQ+ elementary school students, their friends, and their grown-ups.” The image shows that the club is for “TK-5th grade” on Wednesdays from September 13 through November 15, 2023.

In another post, Houman David Hemmati explained that the image originated in an email that the school district sent out.

Parents Defending Education verified that the image did come from the school district by finding both English and Spanish versions of the poster on the Los Angeles Unified School District’s website.

The school district has the image posted online.
