Iron County School District has guidance mandating that parents be involved with their children on transgender issues

Incidents

Parents Defending Education submitted a public records request to the Iron County School District seeking any transgender guidance used for students. The school district provided PDE with an “administrative memorandum” regarding “Name/Pronoun Change Requests.” The guidance appears to support involving parents for any issues regarding gender identity. The guidance from the superintendent states: “Parents have a right to know what is going on with their child at school.” The guidance later adds:

There is no law or case law or anything else that supports hiding student information from parents. On the contrary, in order for parents to fulfill their role in our partnership to educate their children, they need to be informed of important matters involving their children.
