Falmouth Public Schools has policy that states students can identify as transgender at school without parental consent

Incidents

Parents Defending Education submitted a public records request to Falmouth Public Schools seeking any guidance on transgender issues. The district provided PDE with a policy titled “Transgender and Gender Expansive Students.” The policy specifically states that students can identify as transgender without parental consent: “Students may request a change to their name and/or gender in school records without parental/guardian approval.”

The policy mandates that staff and students use the preferred pronouns of other students: “School staff, substitutes, volunteers and students shall be expected to refer to the student by the student’s chosen name and pronouns.” Students are allowed to use the restrooms and locker rooms as well as participate in overnight trips and “interscholastic athletics” according to their preferred gender identity.
