Colonial School District’s Gender Support and Gender Transition Plans May be Created Without Parent Consent

Incidents

Colonial School District uses Gender Support Plans and Gender Transition Plans that do not require any parental involvement.

Included in the Gender Support Plan is a section entitled Parent/Guardian Involvement. It reads, “Are guardian(s) of this student aware and supportive of their child’s gender transition? If not, what considerations must be accounted for by implementing this plan?”

The Gender Support Plan also includes the question “Who will be the student’s “go to adult” on campus?

The Gender Support Plan has a section for differentiating between the name/gender entered into the Student Information System and the name that will be used when referring to the student as well.

In addition, the Gender Transition Plan includes a section regarding Parent/Guardian Involvement, that includes the question “Are guardian(s) of this student aware and supportive of their child’s gender transition? If not, what considerations must be accounted for by implementing this plan?”
