Cincinnati Public Schools’ guidance for transgender students includes hiding transitions from parents, suggests administrators ‘should consider’ reporting parents for child abuse

Incidents

Cincinnati Public Schools’ guidance for transgender students states that “parents may or may not be supportive of the student’s gender identity” and that the information “should not be shared with parents if disclosing the information to parents could put the student at risk of harm at home.” The guidance also suggests that administrators “should also consider whether there is a mandatory duty to report child abuse.”

The district guidance also states that “students should be allowed to use the restroom according to the students’ gender identity.” It continues: “Students, whether transgender or not, who are uncomfortable using shared facilities shall, upon request, be allowed to use gender-neutral facilities in the school as available.”
