Outrage in the California School District after parents learned their children are being forced to pass a course they say is divisive and focuses on pushing a narrative of white supremacy and oppression.

Parents Defending Education Director of Outreach Erika Sanzi joined The National Desk’s Jan Jeffcoat to discuss the issue.

“One thing that's important to know is that the state of California now has the requirement that students take and pass an ethnic studies course and even though districts have till 2030 to get that in place, a lot of districts already have it in place,” she said. “So there are a lot of students currently in schools now where they have to take a class.”

The Ethnic Studies class is a graduation requirement for students in the Oxnard Union High School districts in California.

Sanzi believes that while this course sounds good at first, there is concerning content and red flags when you dig into it. “It’s about white supremacy and whiteness being a problem,” she said.

“So what students are going to see and learn is that every person either falls into the bucket of oppressed or oppressor in the ethnic studies courses. What they do, is they try to teach students about the intersection of ethnicity and race,” Sanzi said. “That's one of the reasons why the language we're hearing from students on college campuses and in some high schools in the wake of the Israel massacre, is because they've put Jews in the bucket of white oppressors.”
