An email and attached guide provided to PDE by a concerned citizen reveals the creation of a document titled “Supporting LGBTQ+ Faculty & Staff: A Guide” by an organization called Trans Educators Network that claims LGBTQ+ educators are “facing increasing levels of intimidation and hostility across the country” and “are being targeted by parents’ organizations.”

The guide claims that “LGBTQ+ educators are facing increasing levels of intimidation and hostility across the country” and that “they and their allies are being targeted by parents’ organizations, traditional news outlets, and on social media, doxxed, made the subject of complaints to school boards and false police reports, and limited by restrictive legislation from teaching inclusive lessons, supporting LGBTQ+ students, and being out at work.”
The document links to parent groups such as Parents Defending Education and Moms For Liberty.

The guide also includes “recommendations” such as health insurance policies covering the “full range of gender-affirming care,” “allow community members to self-identify when using gender-exclusive facilities,” and for the district to “conduct equity audits on talent processes and pay.”

Other “recommendations” include procedures for pronoun changes and usage, removing “gendered language from employee dress codes,” create “clear guidelines for LGBTQ+ employees who are required to travel for work, including support mechanisms for and possible alternatives to travel to locations with anti-LGBTQ+ legislation,” create a “name and pronoun policy,” and create a “policy regarding hate speech.”
