San Francisco Unified School District is celebrating April as “honoring the identities and history of the LGBTQ+ community” for over 35 years

Incidents

On April 6, 2026, the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) posted an announcement stating that “April is SFUSD’s Pride Month!” The district states: “For over 35 years SFUSD has been honoring the identities and history of the LGBTQ+ community and recommitting ourselves to our shared value that everyone derives to feel like they belong!” The district explained that this year’s theme is “Freedom to Be: Art, Joy, and Resilience.”

SFUSD has notably locked a lot of the documents that will be used with student events from public access. On April 21, the district plans to have a “Pink Wave” that is “to help make sure all of us feel free to be ourselves.” On April 22, SFUSD will hold its “Youth Pride” event. Activities for this Youth Pride event include to “do drag make-up” and “sing with the SF Gay Men’s Chorus.”

The district promotes a document titled “SFUSD’s Pride Month Resource Guide” that is also locked from public view.
