San Diego Unified School District provides statement resisting Trump administration policies; provides students with a “Know Your Legal Rights” document to combat immigration enforcement

Incidents

The San Diego Unified School District published a statement that appears to be against President Trump’s policies. The district states: “We acknowledge the current and potential future threats faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals (especially transgender members), immigrants, and all students, families, and staff, which may directly have an impact on students’ physical safety, mental health, and school engagement.”

The statement has a link for students to “report a concern” as well as a document for students to “Know Your Legal Rights.” The document provides guidance for students, families, and school districts to resist U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) enforcing federal immigration laws.
