Saline Area Schools allows “registered sex offenders” on school campuses

Incidents

Saline Area Schools has a district policy titled “School Visitors” that is dated as last revised on November 8, 2022. The policy explains that “the Superintendent or the principal has the authority to prohibit the entry of any person to a school of this District or to expel any person when there is reason to believe the presence of such person would be detrimental to the good order of the school.” However, the policy then explicitly states that “registered sex offenders” are allowed on school campuses. The policy states:

Individuals who are registered sex offenders and wish to participate in school activities may be allowed on campus. Conditions may be imposed by the Superintendent on the individual’s campus visit(s) governing the terms and conditions of the visit. These conditions may include, but are not limited to, the need to receive prior permission before entering campus, required check-in, an approved escort in the building or at an event, and time or location limitations while on campus.
