Salem-Keizer Public Schools plans to hold “Pride Month Field Day” at elementary school

On June 7, 2024, Salem-Keizer Public Schools promoted a “Pride Month Field Day” for June 14. The school district explains online: “Salem-Keizer’s Office of Student Equity, Access, and Advancement, in partnership with the student LGBTQ+ PRIDE Council, is hosting the district’s annual Pride Month event – a field day!” The district then adds: “The field day will be a welcoming place to celebrate LGBTQ2SIA+ students and families and will feature a variety of indoor and outdoor activity stations, a sensory/reading room and a meal for families.” The event appears to be planned for Lamb Elementary School.

On May 6, 2024, the school district promoted a “DAISY Open House” on Instagram. The purpose of this event was “supporting LGBTQ+ students and fostering inclusivity within our community.” The Oregon Department of Education was also involved with the event.

The school district promoted an LGBTQ-themed open house.

On May 18, 2024, the school district posted on Instagram that it held an “LGBTQ+ Green Carnation Graduation Celebration” where the district provided graduates with “honorary stoles” that had LGBTQ colors. The district explained: “Just as high schools hold awards ceremonies for their graduates, the district hosts several graduation celebrations for students of groups who have historically struggled to graduate or faced barriers in school.”

The school district provided LGBTQ rainbow stoles to students.
