The Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 has a policy titled “Curriculum Content” that explains what material must be included in the curriculum taught to students. When discussing United States history, the policy explains that there will be a focus on LGBTQ issues and the ethnic and religious identity of Americans. The policy was most recently revised on April 10, 2023.
The policy explains that students will be taught “a study of the roles and contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people in the history of the U.S. and Illinois,” “the role and contributions of ethnic groups, including, but not limited to, the African Americans, Polish, Lithuanians, Germans, Hungarians, Irish, Bohemians, Russians, Albanians, Italians, Czechs, Slovakians, French, Scots, Asian Americans, and Hispanics,” and “the contributions made to society by Americans of different faith practices, including, but not limited to, Muslim Americans, Jewish American, Christian Americans, Hindu Americans, Sikh Americans, Buddhist Americans, and any other collective community of faith that has shaped America. “
