In 2019, the Orcas Island School District implemented its new gender inclusivity policy which outlines the district’s plan for working with trans students. The district affirms the idea of multiple gender identities and expressions:

Within the policy, the district outlines its protocol to not tell parents about their child name change and requiring other staff and students to use their preferred pronouns:

The district will also allow trans students to use the corresponding restrooms and locker rooms that they identify with and not the ones that align with their biological sex as well as participate on sports teams based on gender identity.
