Newton North High School’s vice principal sends newsletter to students telling them they can change their preferred pronouns and names “at any time”

On December 30, 2023, the vice principal of Newton North High School sent out her newsletter (the “Weekly Winston Update” to students regarding news for the upcoming year.


At the bottom of the newsletter was a section labeled as “Name, Pronoun or Gender Identity Updates.” The vice principal explained that students could change their preferred pronouns and names “at any time” with no mention of parents or parental acknowledgment. She stated:

Students may see their House Administrative Assistant at any time to update their preferred name and/or pronouns in Aspen. These fields are easy to update. Students may also choose to “push” their preferred name to Schoology and Google.

The vice principal sent a newsletter to students explaining that they can change their preferred pronouns and names “at any time.”
