New LGBTQ club introduced to students at Aldrin Elementary School; more LGBTQ clubs will likely come to elementary schools in Fairfax County

Incidents

Concerned community members reached out to Parents Defending Education regarding the Fairfax County Council of PTAs (FCCPTA) promoting LGBTQ clubs for elementary students. PDE received an image of a sign posted in Aldrin Elementary School in Fairfax County Public Schools promoting a “Rainbow Club.” The sign states that the club is “sponsored by the Aldrin PTA” and “will kick off on June 6th, 2023.” The sign also states that the club “is an Elementary School version of a GSA” and that the club “is open to all LGBTQIA+ students and student allies, in Grade 4-6.”

PDE also received an email sent out by Robert Rigby. He currently serves as vice president of advocacy for the FCCPTA and as president of the LGBTQ school organization FCPS Pride. He recently worked as a Latin teacher within the district before retiring. In the email, he tells recipients about plans to implement LGBTQ clubs in more elementary schools: “On another note, keep an eye open for a zoom brainstorming meeting with us this summer on Rainbow Clubs in elementary schools!”

Robert Rigby announced plans for more LGBTQ clubs in elementary schools.
