Middle School Teacher Posts Video With 5 Tips for Being a “Trans Ally” (Including Being Willing to Withhold Information from Students’ Parents and Using They/Them Pronouns in Math Problems)

A teacher at Darrington Middle school in Darrington, Washington posted a video on TikTok to offer 5 tips to teachers to teachers for being a “trans ally” and making classrooms “safe spaces.” The tips include asking students for their preferred pronouns and allowing them to decide who can and can’t know about them. She specifically says to ask students if she can use their name and pronouns when calling home and talking to parents.

She also states that math problems should include “they/them” pronouns since it’s 2023 and non-binary people exist.
