Lincoln Public Schools has policy that appears to explain the gender identity of students can be hidden from parents

Incidents

Lincoln Public Schools has a policy in place titled “Gender Identity and Gender Expansive Students” with an additional protocols document detailing the rules of the policy. The policy appears to explain that the gender identity of students can be hidden from parents:

Some transgender students do not want their parents to know about their transgender status. These situations must be addressed on a case-by-case basis and require schools to balance the goal of supporting the student with the requirement that parents be kept informed about their children. In these circumstances, school administration should inform the superintendent for direction on how to proceed.

Staff are mandated to use the preferred pronouns of students: “Students shall be addressed by school staff by the preferred name and pronoun.” Students are allowed to use the restrooms and locker rooms as well as participate in sports and overnight field trips according to their preferred gender identity.
