Parents of a middle schooler in Leon County, Florida reached out to Tallahassee Reports to share their experience with a gender support plan put in place for their daughter not only without their knowledge but with explicit instructions to hide it from them.

Despite promises from the superintendent in January 2021 to amend the guidance on how to manage students’ gender transition would be changed, that has still not happened.
District officials say they have addressed the guidance with school administrators but there has been no official change to the guidance to end the the exclusion of parents.
