Hoonah City Schools explains that transgender policy came from Association of Alaska School Boards; distict staff can withhold information from parents

Incidents

Parents Defending Education submitted a public records request to Hoonah City Schools requesting information about where the school district’s transgender policy originated. The policy states that the school district can keep the gender identity of students a secret from parents. A representative of the school district explained to PDE that the district uses the Association of Alaska School Boards (AASB) “for our policy revisions and manuals.” The representative added: “This policy was presented to the board in 2016.”

The school district used a model transgender policy from the AASB.
