Farmington Area Public Schools has a page online for resources related to “Substance Use prevention & intervention.” Under a section on this page labeled as LGBTQ resources, the school district promotes the “Hennepin Healthcare Gender and Sexual Health Clinic” for students. The district provides the following description for the clinic:
The Hennepin Healthcare Gender and Sexual Health clinic is a unique and welcoming clinic providing primary care and mental health care to children, adolescents, and young adults who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, gender-questioning or gender-nonconforming.
This gender clinic is part of the Minneapolis hospital Hennepin Healthcare. The clinic states on the hospital’s website: “We know that LGBTQ children who have nurturing and supportive families and health care providers have better outcomes than those who do not.” The clinic supports helping children transition to another gender through hormone therapy and surgeries. Services include “mental health care,” “pubertal suppression,” “gender-affirming hormone therapy,” “referrals to surgeons or subspecialists as needed,” and “referral to community supports or resources as needed.”
