Bulletin board display on gender identity taken down after parent complaints and superintendent review

Incidents

The picture below was taken in the “Guidance Corner” of the school library at Mountain View Middle School in Goffstown, NH, a school in the SAU #19 district. The school serves students in grades 5-8—the youngest students in the school are ten-years-old. The guidance counselors work in an office connected to the library and this display area belongs to them.

In response to a parent inquiry August 25th and additional comments from the public at a school board meeting on August 28th, the superintendent of schools looked into the issue and decided that the display should come down.

He explains his reasoning in a September 7th video message here.
