Bristol Warren Regional School District has policy to keep gender identity of students hidden from parents

Incidents

The Bristol Warren Regional School District has a policy in place titled “Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Policy.” The policy explicitly states that the gender identity of students can be hidden from parents:

If the BWRSD administration, faculty, and staff, in consultation with the student, determine that notifying the student’s parent(s)/guardian(s) of the student’s gender identity carries risks to the student’s physical or mental health, safety, or well-being, it shall not inform the parent(s)/guardian(s) of the student’s gender identity without the student’s consent.

Staff are mandated to use the preferred pronouns of other students: “The student shall then be addressed by school staff by the name and pronoun corresponding to his/her preferred gender identity.” Students are allowed to use the restrooms and locker rooms as well as participate in sports according to their preferred gender identity.
