Pitt County Schools has gender support plan for students who want to transition to another gender

Incidents

Parents Defending Education submitted a public records request to Pitt County Schools seeking any guidance the district has regarding transgender issues. The district provided PDE with three documents. The first document is titled “Gender Support Plan.” This plan is for students who want to transition to another gender. The plan does state that it “must be developed with a student’s parents/legal guardians.” The plan asks numerous questions regarding the student, including “sex assigned at birth” and “sex/gender identity.” The document does appear to explain that students can use the restrooms that match their preferred gender identity.

PDE also received two documents titled “Name Change Parental Notice Form” and “Pronoun Change Parental Notice Form.” Both forms require a signature from parents.
