Moriarty-Edgewood School District has guidelines that appear to explain staff should keep the gender identity of students hidden from parents

Incidents

Parents Defending Education submitted a public records request to the Moriarty-Edgewood School District seeking any guidance the district has regarding transgender issues. The district provided PDE with a document titled “MESD Gender Support Procedures.” If students come out as transgender, staff will meet with the students to discuss what to do going forward.

Staff need to obtain information from students such as “do they feel safe” and “do parents know.” Staff should “schedule meeting with parents, counselor, principal.” However, in the scenario that parents do not know, staff should “meet with counselor.”

A gender support plan is also attached that asks for the “preferred gender” of students.
