Clark County School Board Approves Controversial Sex Education Curriculum That Includes Graphic Role-Playing Scenarios

On April 28, 2022, Clark County School District Board (CCSD), which includes Las Vegas, Nevada, and surrounding communities, voted to approve a controversial “Comprehensive Sex Education Curriculum” despite parent concerns. The school board is led by President Irene Cepeda and Superintendent of Schools Jesus F. Jara, Ed.D.

During the board meeting, parents and educators shared concerns that the curriculum was unsuitable for students. One woman, who has been teaching for 56 years, shared, “[She] is disturbed by the proposed sex education curriculum. She urged the Board to not go forward with this item.” A parent said, “the school district has no place teaching sex education and that children in third grade and below should not even be thinking about these topics.” There were also concerns about the high schooler’s curriculum, and one woman “found material that was provided to 10th-grade students unacceptable for any grade.”

Power2Parent, a Nevada-based organization that works to defend parental rights, said, “Their [the school board’s] vote illustrated their opinion that parents do not know what is best for their children and must abdicate their right to decide what is best for their child to government schools that shepherd them through social-engineered, activist “education.”

These parents and educators have cause to be concerned as the curriculum includes a lesson in which students role-play graphic intimate scenarios.

Scenarios include:

The sex education curriculum is provided by Advocates for Youth, an organization known for creating sex education curricula with graphic descriptions of sexual acts and questionable materials for children.  Advocates for Youth’s website reads

This is not the first time Clark County School District has pursued agendas that conflict with parental rights. In the 2021-2022 school year they had nearly 200 students on “gender support plans”.
