The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s (CHOP) Gender and Sexuality Development Clinic has hosted trainings for teachers and administrators in many Pennsylvania School Districts.

According to their website, in 2017 CHOP’s Gender and Sexuality Development Clinic “completed 33 trainings in 15 schools; reaching more than 1,500 educators.” These trainings included “establishing trans inclusive policies” and “establishing accountability plans that will reward students and teachers who put a stop to harassment.”

Since 2017 CHOP’s Gender and Sexuality Development Clinic has continued to influence public schools. According to emails obtained by Parents Defending Education, in 2021 the clinic’s Family Support and Education Specialist said she has “been begging Bucks County SD’s to host trainings”.

A sample training from CHOP called “K-12 Grade Support”, posted in 2020, says “When someone shares their gender identity with you, it is imperative that you keep that protected. You have to keep that private.”

The training continues, “If we disclose this information without someone’s involvement, without them giving us permission, we are setting them up for a negative, potentially harmful, unsafe experience. So when we get this information we keep it private from other students, from other staff members and from parents.”
