On Aug. 18, 2020, the Virginia Department of Education presented a webinar, “Becoming an Anti-racist Education Leader: Equity and Anti-racism for Education Leaders,” with the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Education.

What is the Virginia Commonwealth University Metropolitan Educational Research Consortium?

Established in 1991 at Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Education, the Metropolitan Educational Research Consortium works with seven local school divisions to “plan and conduct research” Its research projects include “action research teams for culturally responsive teaching,” “equitable access and support for advanced coursework,” “English learner research and evaluation,” “digital equity and distance learning,” “professional development for success in culturally diverse schools” and “achieving racial equity in school discipline.”

The consortium says it has done work with several school districts, including: Chesterfield County; Goochland; Hanover; Henrico; Petersburg; Powhatan; and Richmond.
