Tukwila School District’s labor acknowledgement claims “the labor of black and brown bodies” built the country and its institutions through past and present exploitation and slavery.

The statement claims that the “burden of environmental exploitation and systemic injustice falls upon the labor of black and brown bodies in the building of this country and its institutions” and that the district recognizes the “continued contribution of the labor of survivors – over the centuries to today – of all immigrant labor, including voluntary, involuntary, trafficked, forced and undocumented peoples in the building of what we refer to as the United States.”

The district states that it pledges to “recognize and work against systems that have historically and currently enforce and create inequities among the people we serve.”
