The Allen-Stevenson School Separates Students Into Affinity Groups and Utilizes Pollyanna Racial Literacy Curriculum In Class

Incidents

The Allen-Stevenson School, a private K-8 school for boys, features a “Community Life + Diversity” program that offers various race-based affinity groups for students, including “BOCAS: Boys of Color at Allen-Stevenson” and “WISE: White Identifying Students for Equity.”

The school also has multiple faculty and staff groups separated between staff of color and white “antiracist” educators, including:

  • “GSA: Gender & Sexuality Alliance”
  • “FSoC: Faculty & Staff of Color”
  • “WARE: White Anti-Racist Educators”

The school’s Community Life + Diversity page also includes links for Social Justice and Racial Equity readings including works by Ibram X Kendi:

In an interview with the school’s chair of Diversity Jennifer Vermont-Davis, back in February of 2021, Vermont-Davis describes how the school is incorporating Pollyanna Racial Literacy programs in the school curriculum:
