An elected board member to St. Cloud Area School District 742 in 2018–allegedly posted to her personal Facebook page, “Fuck you, ICE, for putting my child on high alert at high school…Instead of laughing with her friends at lunch, she is making plans with them for everyone to start their car alarms if ICE shows up. Fuck you, Donald Trump. And a special fuck you to every single person who voted for him.”

She has since deleted that post from her page and posted an apology “for the tone of a personal social media post…” The full text of what she wrote on her personal Facebook page is below.

As written in her advertisement for the January 21st training, “‘As White folks, we often do not seek to understand what our role is in anti-racism, equity and inclusion, even in our own workplaces and community spaces. This training will help you understand the Eight White Identities and find your role in the ongoing work of racial and social justice in our communities.'”

Topics for the training include, “Cultural, religious, and racial tensions, ” “Moving from indifference to action.” “The eight white identities,” “White savior complex,” “Interpersonal vs. systemic discrimination,” “Contradictions for white folks in racial justice work,” and “Interrupting dominant white culture.”

The first learning objective for the training is as follows: “You will understand the levels of whiteness and identify where you are on your journey.” Other objectives include hearing stories of marginalization and hope, learning about “white saviorism,” and understanding one’s role in racial and social justice, in order to become an ally and accomplice.

This board member is Chair of the Achievement, Integration and Equity Committee for the 10,000-student school district. She was voted in by the district for two consecutive terms.
