Sacramento State University Ethnic Studies program courses feature content such as tenets of queer theory, white supremacy, whiteness, and white privilege.

The course ETHN 70: Introduction to Pan-African Studies includes topics such as Black liberation and tenets of queer theory. Readings include Angela Davis and Frantz Fanon.

The course description states that it is “an introduction to the field of Pan-African Studies.”


The course ETH 195B: Ethnic Studies Seminar includes the topics such as institutional racism, whiteness, and white privilege.

The course description states that seminar discussions are “designed to synthesize and assess knowledge in Ethnic Studies courses and are applied to fieldwork experiences.”


The course ETHN 22: Contemporary Issues and Social Change states that it “explores how students can utilize university resources to explore interests and concerns, hone academic skills, and contribute to social change

The course ETHN 117: Black Political Thought states that it will “systematically and analytically introduce the predominant political trends and concepts presently entertained and harbored in the Black Community.” It continues: “A necessary adjunct to this dialogue is the racist theme in American society since on balance this is the matrix out of which the political alternatives and concepts grew.”

ETHN 205: Indigenous Communities and Communities of Color

The course ETHN 205: Indigenous Communities and Communities of Color “advances students knowledge and understanding of indigenous communities and communities of color through an examination of critical issues that shape and connect these communities such as racialization, white supremacy/anti-blackness, settler colonialism, racial capitalism, criminalization, carcerality, detention and deportation.”
