Rochester Community Schools puts up Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion page; adopts framework to “redesign” the public school system

Incidents

Rochester has created a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion page on their website and launched a District Equity Committee to “generate recommendations of goals for district-wide equity centered improvements” and their goal is to “transform student experiences and learning outcomes.” They say it is their obligation to completely “redesign” the public education system and they assert that the “outdated system ignores current research and science about what students truly need to learn.” They do not link to or cite any of that research and science.

This BELE Framework says that the pre-COVID education system was based on racial inequality.

The Diversity provides additional resources for educators, parents, and students.

Learning for Justice provides lessons and planning for teachers regarding equality including lessons on voter suppression. The Learning for Justice was founded by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
