Incidents

In February 2020, the Montgomery County Public Schools “Equity Team” conducted “Examining Whiteness” trainings for educators. Marya Hay, a member of the Montgomery County Public Schools Equity Initiative Unit, tweeted out images from the training that included a discussion about “whiteness.”

Notes from the meeting said:

“Whiteness: A systemic, racial, social construct backed by no scientific evidence, created to benefit white people by unequally distributing power and privledge [sic] through society’s norms, traditions, and institutions.”

Hay said in a tweet that the training was “offered once a semester.”

On Oct. 20, 2018, the Montgomery County Public Schools “Equity Team” conducted a training using “The Color Line” from the Zinn Education Project.

Earlier, in September 2018, the English Department in a Montgomery County high school discussed Robin DiAngelo’s book, White Fragility.
