Incidents

Highland Springs High School’s Counseling Department, part of Highland Springs High School located near Richmond, Virginia, promoted Black Lives Matter at School Week alongside School Counseling Week from their Twitter account @counselingHSHS.

The Tweet contained the caveat that the activities are voluntary and open to all students.  An information sheet Tweeted from the account directs people to www.blacklivesmatteratschool.com and www.schoolcounselorg.org.

Black Lives Matter at School describes itself as a,“National coalition organizing for racial justice in education.”

The website features BLM’s 13 Guiding Principles which include ideas like “Trans Affirming” which claims to be “doing the work required to dismantle cis-gender privilege…” and “Black Villages” that are “committed to disrupting the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement”.

As of February 8, 2023 Highland Springs High School’s website mentions School Counseling Week and makes no mention of Black Lives Matter at School Week.
