Great Neck North High School English teacher tells students that “racism in America is no better today than it was 200 years ago”; asks students to take a pledge to work “relentlessly” in the “lifelong process” of “antiracism”

According to parents, a teacher of 11th grade English at Great Neck North High School presented a powerpoint that made the claim that “racism in America is no better today than it was 200 years ago.” The powerpoint is steeped in the tenets of critical race theory and makes sweeping generalizations about white people.

Notice that on the slide titled “current reading,” both Ibram X. Kendi and Robin DiAngelo are listed.

The teacher asks the students in the class to take a pledge—even if a student disagrees with or doesn’t want to do the four things laid out in the pledge, this wording makes it incredibly hard for them to say so:
