Fridley Public Schools cancelled due to ICE activity – no online learning available

Incidents

Friday, January 9th, 2026 Fridley Public Schools cancelled school as well as after school activities “Due to Safety Concerns” and ICE activity.

An email to parents read, “We are choosing to cancel school tomorrow because so many in our community are scared, unsure if it is safe to travel or leave home, and are experiencing very real trauma. We have seen a major spike in absences and staff availability as families and employees make the best decisions they can to protect themselves and their children.”

December 2025, the Fridley School Board passed a resolution on immigration enforcement, affirming that the district will refuse to grant access to immigration enforcement without a valid judicial warrant. “We cannot legally allow this access. There is an environment that is being intentionally upheld where our students are terrified to come to school, and we have parents that are terrified to leave their homes,” the district superintendent said during the December meeting.

The resolution–titled “Affirming Student Safety, Legal Compliance, and Belonging” discussed legal compliance and restrictions, access to school property, protection of student records, and the district’s moral responsibility, stating that, “Immigration enforcement officials shall not be granted access to non-public areas of school buildings, school grounds, or school transportation unless presented with a valid judicial warrant or court order.”

On January 9th, Fridley Public School District posted to Facebook, “Fridley High School has been voted Best Public School!”
