Fourth grade students write social justice ‘Anti-Bias ABC’s’ book as part of class project and fundraiser
Incidents
An Alameda Unified School District fourth grade class has written, illustrated, and published “Anti-Bias ABC’s” as a class project. Love Elementary students produced the picture book which features vocabulary words that are “key to social justice” such as “upstander” and “gender identity.” The book is a fundraiser for the Love Elementary PTA.
The teacher of the fourth-grade class states, in the now deleted, district post that the class had discussions on why to choose “the word ‘open-minded’ instead of ‘oppression’ or ‘teach’ instead of tolerance.'”
