Coeur d’Alene Adopts Equity Framework; defends the move by citing critical race theorists

Incidents

Coeur d’Alene School District has adopted an equity framework that, despite the district’s denials, is demonstrably steeped in the tenets of critical race theory.

From the toolkit:

The Equity Toolkit cites critical race theorists so we know that that CRT is baked into the framework.

For example, as noted by Anna Miller at the Idaho Freedom Foundation, Zaretta Hammond believes that white teachers and students must be made to feel discomfort, rest in that discomfort, confront, and eventually become critical of their supposed privilege. Hammond argues, “Just having a social justice stance or wanting to close the achievement gap doesn’t undo our unconscious programming around issues of race and privilege.” The district has embraced these ideas to justify their equity work.
