Centerville School District Plans to “Diversify” Curriculum At the Behest of Outside Group

Incidents

The Centerville School District in Ohio has begun plans to “diversify” its curriculum and establish a “Curriculum Diversity Committee” after requests from local group, “Village of Elks“. In emails sent to the district superintendent, the organization asked the district to diversify the curriculum to better represent Black history—they specifically recommend the work of Ibram X Kendi. They contend that their recommended version of curriculum diversification is needed “to provide diverse educational opportunities that develop the skills, attitudes, knowledge and ethics for all students.”

In response, the Superintendent confirmed that the district was moving forward with more DEI measures.
